The Broken Sam

 The big storm of Feb, 2010, prevented the planned road trip to New Jersey where Heather’s cousin now lives and where an erzats family reunion was to surround that cousin’s 40th birthday.
The disappointment of the Jersey-bound family was extreme. They threatened lawsuits, which we laughed off. They attempted an occult summoning, but our many wards and talismans thwarted their so-called wizard. Ultimately they settled on paying for Heather’s airfare. Samantha had been looking forward to the trip more than anyone else, as she missed her second-cousins a lot, so I agreed to pay her way, while Riley and myself remained in Michigan in order to defend our house from looters. Mere hours after her arrival in the Garden State I received a text message stating that Samantha had fallen out of a bunk-bed, had hurt her arm, and was to be dropped off at a godless NJ emergency room by a party bus on its way to inebriate the entire family. X-rays revealed a broken elbow, and while the trip still involved some amount of fun for all involved, it will forever be remembered as the time that New Jersey broke Samantha. So its been a week, and while Sam has been fairly sanguine about the ordeal–at least as sanguine as an ADHD addled 8-year old can ever be–she is still suffering from aches and itches in equal measure. And since the whole enterprise had such a miserable ending I can’t even parlay the fact that I didn’t get to go into any sort of credit towards gaining some momentary personal freedom this weekend. *sigh* |
Strange Times

60 Degrees on Dec 27? Why the heck not?
Note the piles of startled ice and snow converting to airborne water vapor in embarrassment.
Three days ago it was, literally, 1 degree Fahrenheit (-18C).
Cold enough that no amount of bundling could make a man feel cozy.
This morning I woke up and it was 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16C).
Warm enough for me to go outside clothed only in a toddler and a pair of sweatpants.
Whoever knew that signs of impending doom could be so amusing! Its as if Buddy Hacket had assumed the role of grim reaper in tonight’s production of “Death and Dismemberment in The Age of Enlightenment*”
* Not an actual play but, you know, it should be!
The Backup is Complete

I have already performed one successful backup. This is primarily because I am a stud.
Secondarily, I used my studliness to examine the way the backup was being performed. Completely unaware of my stud-hood, the computer remained obstinate. I exposed my stud-like pectoral muscles and impressive scowl to the computer interface and it immediately collapsed into a form of supplication commonly known as a “curtsy”. This was followed by a data dump to a folder which I shared for its personal use.
Needless to say it thanked me and asked me please, sir, for another.

Ah! Little did you know that I begin each day with 60 push-ups.
I reserve the insane calves for only the most recalcitrant computer systems.
