Imperial Grasshopper Storm Trooper

Graffiti on abandoned office building in Detroit
Click for the rest of the picture.
Every time I park in the Financial District Garage I stop to look at this building, which is directly across the street from the multi-story car park. I often wonder at the meaning of the grasshopper storm trooper, and the “love hate hero” message two floors above him.
Wasteland though it’s been for decades, Detroit’s urban ruins have something going for them.
Probably that something is just mass. That and perhaps a role as a minor environmental heat sinc.
Moving back to the picture above, I must say that it is much more interesting than the skeletal remains of the train depot.

Lets ogle Google!

I dig that pic of the building and its matching fire escape. Lovely angle! Although you kinda don’t have much of a choice, thanks to the way the buildings are laid out downtown.

See, I’m all for architectural desolation, and I think it’d be ace to leave these buildings in the states that they’re currently in. However, that wouldn’t really be conducive to having a living city. But then, renovating old buildings is one of the many, many topics on the laundry list of reclaiming Detroit.

That part of Motor City looks like something out of I Am Legend. Very ghost town like.
Must be an advertising shoot location heaven!!!

Dear Joe -

I’m sorry to choose this comment form to write to you. (I couldn’t find a more direct route – but was blessed by some of your posts! Congrats on the weight loss, btw!) You can delete this response!

I already own a Roland HP 337 (big brother of the 237?) and like it very much. I’m considering buying a used Roland HP 237 and that’s how I found you in the first place – looking for reviews online. Found yours (btw, I also have a Baldwin acoustic – but I kept mine!)and I’m wondering if you have any updates on the review of the HP 237- some 8 or so years later? Could you please write me an email?

Thanks in advance,
Dave

Davecat: tearing down or renovating can’t do much if we don’t have a compelling urban lifestyle.

Zuba:Click upon it and it will zoom in for you. I’m not sure why you can’t see the grasshopper storm trooper.

Dave: Is there something wrong with your 337 or do you think he’s lonely? My 237 is still just as good as the day I got it.
That baby I mentioned in the original review? She’s 7 now and taking lessons. She practices on the 237 and does just fine. :)
Although the music store guys seem to poo-poo the Rolands in favor of the Yamahas, I don’t see why. At least at the entry level like the 237, the Roland feels a lot better to me.
