I don’t know why, but I love dreary weather. Further, I like simulated desolation, like the kind pictured above. This is a photo of a street in my neighborhood, early morning after a night of rain. I feel as if, for the moment, I am the only one here.
I drive slowly, with my radio off and my windows rolled down, so I can smell the sweet smell of leaves returning to soil and hear their rustling, restless movement from yard to street to neighbor’s yard.
D to B-storm coming:
Decidedly desolate desiduous trees bare their branches before me. Fallen in fall my fortune and time, engine rumbling quitly to itself as each corner passes handlengths away and recedes in the mirror that I should be using more often. My gaze, as I snap my shots, is perpendicular to my path, as the things I pass are more interesting than the things I approach.
Isn’t that always the way of Things? |

Oh, and I passed another test.
I promise to be funny tomorrow.
Congrats on the test! beautiful pics….very surreal….Michigan eh?
Congrats on the pass. Those are tough tests. How many left to go?
Those photos are really ace, especially the first one. Foggy and bleak days like that are worth getting out of bed for.
Good going on the tests! Four down, two hundred and eighty-six to go!
mitz:Thanks! And, yes, Michigan. Southeast Michigan. A northern suburb of Detroit. Pics were taken with my phone. I wish I had my regular camera….
Robin:Two more. Two weeks, two tests. I will have taken 6 tests in as many weeks. Oh, and I had one I took last year that was grandfathered in. 7 tests total.
Davecat:Then arise, Lord Davecat! And thanks.
I do not like dreary days, but there are rare days in fall when the light falls just right, then everything appears sharper and in more detail than the other days of the year. It is then I wish I were a painter and could capture the essence of that day. I have tried taking photos, but they never do justice to that rare day.

Hi SafeT, I love the dreary weather, too, not just because it’s better for my allergies, but because it induces in me a sense of calm and reflection. Nice photos, reminds me of where I am going for Thanksgiving — Rochester, NY! Peace,
Kevin from haikubykevin
That’s a mighty fine camera phone then, mr T ~ what type is it? The camera on my cell doesn’t take nearly so nice of pics.
Also, don’t you find when it’s that perfect dreary fall day, that there is a decidely crisp scent in the air? Like some one lit a fire with hickory, and let it sift out over everything.
Yes, I know what you mean about dreary days. Those pix were beautiful, and I can relate to the notion of going out early and feeling like you’re the first one up in the world.
Thanksgiving time just doesn’t feel right to me unless it’s a pale grey day, or at least a chilly one. That’s why I love living in the north. I would go crazy in southern California–the constant nice weather sounds downright depressing and, yes, bleak to me!
Kevin:I haven’t been to Rochester in years. Had an old colleague named Steve Valente that probably still lives out there with his wife and kids. He moved back to New York after working for us about a year. The fellow just didn’t fit in here in Michigan…not sure why. Not enough Italians?
redhead83402:Palm Treo 650. It can take max res 640X480, is fixed focus and has naught but a digital 2X zoom. Occasionally I can coax decent pics out of it.
Elvira:You and me both. If I didn’t have seasons, I’d lose track of time.
Rather than grumbling quitly about ‘missing my fix of funny SafeT,’ I say – thank you – I like your serious moments too.
quitly? O, a typoh!
Fixed as we speak, and thanks.
